 What materials are used?

Synthetic polymeric membranes that are used with the four filtration technologies (MF: MicroFiltration / UF: UltraFiltration / NF: NanoFiltration / RO: Reverse Osmosis) are produced with variety of materials.

The major resins used in membrane manufacturing include:

  • Polysulfone (PSF, SOLVAY is the leading worldwide supplier of PSF with the UDEL® brand name).
  • Polyethersulfone (PES, SOLVAY is a leading worldwide supplier of PES with the RADEL® A brand name).
  • Polyphenylsulfone (PPSU, SOLVAY is the only worldwide supplier of PPSU with the RADEL® R brand name).
  • Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF, SOLVAY is a leading worldwide supplier of PVDF with the SOLEF® brand name).
  • Polypropylene (PP).
  • Polyethylene (PE).
  • Cellulose and Cellulose acetates (CA).
  • Polyamide (PA).
  • Polyacrylonitrile (PAN).
  • Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).
